TRY OUR NEW "BIRD" GAMES!!!

HISTORY:

After the very succesful 2005 Greater-Boston Christmas Bird Count a group of JP particpants sat down and discussed their sightings from the previous year. It became clear that there were many birds seen in Boston that never made it to the MASSBIRD List. Some folks stated fear of ridicule and others weren't sure if it was a rare bird and most agreed there were already enough posts on MASSBIRD. It was clear that a list specific to the Boston Area was necessary - so In January of 2006 I started this list. We now have 150 subscribers and are growing rapidly.

If you post to Boston Birds, are a member, or are signing up - Thank You, and we look forward to reading your posts.

BIMBO TERRITORY:

This year Tim Factor coined the term BIMBO, which stands for Birds In Metro Boston Only. This semi-local patch includes towns that are accessible by train with a standard fare. Here is a map of the area included in the BIMBO Territory.

CHARTER:

Boston Birds is a mailing list dedicated to the idea that good birds and birding do not require travel.  This list hopes to serve as an interchange of information around birding Boston.  Boston is loosely defined as Suffolk County + Brookline + Newton. This list is intended for the discussion of local issues - such as birding locations, local conditions, reports of local rarities and unusual sightings, and calls for volunteers in research and census activities. Hopefully, novice birdwatchers, visitors to our area, and our local experts alike, will share their questions and knowledge through this mailing list.

Post in plain text only - no HTML, highlighting, text formatting or attachments.
Don't criticize, but do encourage.
Don't argue, but do discuss.
If you question a bird identification be polite, not disparaging, and reply to the individual not the list.  ALWAYS defer to the poster of the message to determine when it is appropriate to "retract" a sighting!
Be specific about locations: your friends may know Bussey Hill is at the Arnold Arboretum, but many people don't.
