Squantum Point Park a DCR Reservation is a former naval air strip with great open grassland habitat with breeding Eastern Meadowlark and possibly even Grasshopper Sparrow. There are dense thickets at the edges that can hold a lot of birds during migration in particular sparrows can congregate here in large numbers with the possibility of finding field and vesper sparrows during migration. Lastly the harbor runs through this stretch and it is a good place to look for shorebirds at low tide.
Squaw Rock is at the tip of the peninsula - There are unimproved trails through out this urban wild that was once a quarry. It can be a great migrant trap during spring migration - in 2006 a Kentucky Warbler spent a week here. It is also one of many spots in and around the harbor where you may see Oystercatchers.
Lastly, the marshes along the road to Squantum are a great place to find waders and shorebirds. In 2007 a Tri-colored Heron was found here, and the concentraions of shorebirds in the flats west of the road can be impressive. It is also one of only a handful of places in the metro area where Osprey breed. Therer is an active nest just North of Mosswatuset Hill. Anywhere you can access the ocean in the area is a good place to look for winter ducks.
